Last night, the CPC Health Critic flippantly called me homophobic during an exchange in Parliament where I implored her to reflect on a week where her colleagues made incredulous remarks against LGBTQ2+ Canadians, and attended events strategizing on limiting Trans rights. 1/3
Calling someone homophobic for a quick political hit is offensive to all those who live with the trauma of dealing with real homophobia. LGBTQ2+ youth are 7X more likely to attempt suicide, the impacts of homophobia are real and shouldn’t be treated like a political game. 2/3
I hope Michelle Rempel Garner will reflect on her behaviour and will do better to fight against homophobia and transphobia. I call on her to start by educating her own caucus colleagues on their hurtful and harmful actions towards the LGBTQ2+ community. #LoveIsLove 3/3
