// police brutality, death, shooting

I watched the body cam footage of the killing of Makiyah Bryant, and it needs to be said that the officer acted too impulsively. Yes she had a knife, yes she was attacking another person with it. But the police could’ve tazed her, (1/?)
Or shot directly up to make noise but not hurt anyone, or even, if they had to, shot with intention to wound. It is clear in that footage that his goal was to kill. They had been at the scene for less than 15 seconds, and he made the decision to shoot a teenager (2/?)
4 times in the chest. The action was rash and unnecessary. Forgiveness has no place when the mistake took the life from a 16 year old. I’m deeply sorry to the friends and family of Makiyah for their loss. As much as I’d like to hope the police department will make (3/?)
The correct call about the situation regarding the officer who shot, I highly doubt they will. The police system cannot be allowed to continue as it is currently. This wasn’t justice. This was murder.
I’d like to make a correction. Her name was Ma’Khia.
