Madvillainy explained (a thread):

Rest In Peace to the villain đź•Š
In my opinion, there aren’t 5 albums better than Madvillainy ever released. It is as perfect as an album can get. With that said, this thread will be a track by track breakdown of the finest hip hop has to offer.

During my research for this thread I learned an interesting tidbit about the forever iconic cover. It was actually inspired by Madonnas self titled album artwork. The cover was created by Jeff Jank who was the director at DOOM’s label at the time.
They wanted to really show fans who DOOM is, since he was rarely seen. To accomplish this, they took the iconic headshot, but it did not feel like enough, so they added to orange square, similar to the colored letters on Madonnas album cover.
In Madvillainy, there is no story running through every track, but there are powerful themes. It is a continuation of MF DOOM’s villainous persona, but this time he has come together with another dangerous character in madlib.
This album is a masterpiece. Two of the greatest hip hop artists of all time come together to create one of the greatest hip hop records of all time. Every time I listen it blows my mind. Rest in Peace MF DOOM, your work will be listened to and appreciated for generations.
