One of the things I really really wish I could write is ex-convict wwx in a modern au. Just wwx, a few days freshly out of jail, people watching at a street corner, wearing the only pair of clothes he has, and a very worn backpack on his lap.
So many has changed in the 13 years he served his sentence. He sees people talking to each other from what might be a phone, but he isn’t sure. It looked very different from the black and white ones he’s familiar with.
The roads and shops look different, too. He went back to his hometown—the real one, where his parents met—but nothing’s familiar anymore. The old store where they used to get ice cream has been replaced with a burger joint. Atleast that’s where he thinks it was. He’s not sure.
He has little to no cash and nowhere to stay. He tried inquiring for work at the few places with hiring posters he saw, but no one really wants him after he tells them he just finished serving his sentence and is unfamiliar with 80% of new technology.
It’s alright, though. For now.

He smiles and waves when a kid passes by him, looking at him curiously in contrast to everyone else who just passed by him, deeming him not worthy to be seen—just another homeless man, a part of the urban picture in this city.
The boy waves back with a smile, catching up to the adult holding his hand with a spring on his step.

Wei Ying thinks he’s doing alright, for now.
I just want the visual of wwx, homeless for a while, smile in his eyes and on his face even when surely life is difficult on the streets?? When nothing in there should be smile-worthy??? Just him staring in wonder and also nostalgia at all the things he missed and doesnt know??
Also just. More than a little bit lost. Because imagine how hard it is to reintegrate into a society 1) you’re not familiar with anymore 2) shuns you for that thing you did 13 years ago
Crim/inals aren’t faultless ofc!!! People can be heinous and evil!!! But also just because you’re convicted of a crime in front of the court doesn’t really mean that 1) you really did it, or if you did, 2) it wasnt justified.
There can be flaws to court and law.
That said i will shut up now just think of wwx sitting on a corner with his old faded clothes from when he was a teen and his very worn backpack which he used to carry back in highschool. He’s thirty now. He doesn’t now how to use a touch screen phone.

It’s okay. It’ll be ok.
