Now that the # #chauvinverdict is in, here are some thoughts on the trial.

1) The prosecution’s ability to marry the testimony with the video was textbook. I am sure the big $$ civil see this all the time. But it was done at an exceptionally high level for a criminal trial.
2) Nelson made some questionable strategic choices. Most of us CDLs would have been jumping up and down objecting to the cumulative evidence, the repetitive showing of the video, the use of redirect to ask leading questions, the lay witnesses rendering expert opinions, etc.
Nelson decided to be Mr. Rogers I am not sure it would have made a difference but Chauvin might feel better had Nelson put up more of a fight.
3) The prosecution’s cross examination of defense experts, particularly the use of force expert who was a poorly prepped, terrible witness and did more to move the needle towards a guilty verdict than anything they put on during their case in chief.
4) There was more than sufficient evidence shown to convict Chauvin on all 3 charges. While his appeals will occupy him during his prison sentence. Most of the issues on appeal that people have mentioned will not be fruitful.
5) The appellate issue that does have some merit is that 2nd degree murder charge violates the merger doctirne. A lesser included offense cannot be the predicate felony to convict someone of felony murder. Aggravated Assault is a lesser included offense of murder.
We’ll see how this plays out but it would not be surprise to see that verdict overturned.

6. Unless a juror comes out and says they were influenced by the riots, Auntie Maxine or President Dementia, the verdict is not being overturned on that basis. Stop listening to morons.
7. Overall, the police work on the case from when Laine gets the report of the fake $20 bill to Floyd being put in the ambulance was shit. No one should be defending these people as good cops or trying to do the job the right way or the usual justifications that have been used
in the past.

8. This verdict is about nothing more than Chauvin’s conduct being a substantial factor in Floyd’s death. That should have been obvious on May 25, 2020 as it was on April 20, 2020. Nothing more, nothing less.
The verdict does not justify the horrific lawlessness and property destruction that occurred last summer. If anything, the process in court, generally played out how it should and the correct verdict was reached. The violence would not have changed that.
