In college, if we had a run in with the police, they made sure we got home without doing anything (else) too stupid. That model of policing should be true everywhere, not just among the privileged.
Sometimes, more serious intervention is needed - fine - but maybe .001% of those events need a firearm. Most need studious investigation - which guns don't help.
And then there's a whole 'nother category of intervention - mental health and addiction. Police are in no. way shape or form a good pick for first responders in that realm.
I complained long and loudly about "defund the police". I've changed my mind. If police can't stop shooting people, then they aren't really doing any good.
