Another slam dunk from conference. Elder Renlund knocks it out of the park talking about unfairness in this life. With the awe inspiring reminder that there is one person out there who understands how truly unfair life can be. 1/
“It was not fair that He (Jesus Christ) experienced all the pains and afflictions of mankind. It was not fair that he suffered for my sins and mistakes and for yours. But He chose to do so because of his Love for us and for Heavenly Father. He understands perfectly what we are 2/
Experiencing.” What an example. We will never be asked to atone for the sins of the world but we are asked to follow that second great commandment: “Thou shalt love they neighbor as thyself.” It’s this type of Christ-Like love that we need to foster for others so that in some 3./
Small way we can maybe relieve the burden of unfairness others are experiencing. It is our “task in life to trust that ‘all that is unfair in life can be made right through the atonement of Christ’”. It is this knowledge that can truly allow us as Christians 4/
To “approach others with compassion and try to alleviate unfairness where we find it.” In fact that is our calling as Christians, as members of the LDS church, to seek out and alleviate unfairness and unjust aspects of life. We should, as the scriptures say, 5/
“ be anxiously engaged in a good cause.” That is all we have to do. I’ve struggled with that. I know many in our church struggle with that. But as Elder Renlund recounts in the story about Mr. Stevenson: he “observed that self-righteousness, fear, and anger have caused even 6/
Christians to hurl stones at people who stumble…” How sad is that? How often, do we see that occur? I know I’ve seen it. I know I’ve probably been apart of it more than I’d like to admit. “ we will not be judged not so much by what we say but how we treat the vulnerable.” 7/
As Mr. Stevenson said: “We can’t simply watch that happen.” We must become stone catchers. True followers of Christ, who lift up the broken hearted, befriend those who are different from us, and love all of our own free will and choice. We need to start seeing each other with 8/
An eternal perspective. We need to become more Christlike in everything we do. What a huge promise from Elder Renlund that as we do “we develop more empathy, understanding, and charity” It’s the gift that keeps on giving. And the more willingly we give the more we develop it. 9/
“ Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God…. And if it so be that you should labor all your days… and bring, save one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him…” How great will be our joy. True joy, true happiness is found in the service we give 10/
Our fellow brothers and sisters. It’s found in trying to remedy injustice and unfairness in their lives and the world. True happiness was and always will be found in being unassuming of peoples circumstances and freely giving of ourselves. Not for expected blessings 11/
But because we truly seek others to be happy and be lifted up. I know i can be better at viewing others in a more eternal light. I think we all can be better at that. Here’s to trying today, tomorrow and each day after that. End/
