After years of brutal fighting for control of the tribes, Genghis became the sole ruler of the Mongols.

However this was just the beginning, Genghis had a lifetime of lieutenants to meet & recruit. The Empire would spread and Genghis would not do it alone...
The Great Khan and his Empire expanded not just because of him, but the talent he employed.

A leader must promote and delegate. Staying informed and directing is life, micro-managing is death. You must have faith in the accomplishments of your team.

Genghis' top generals...
Muqali - a former slave who displayed wisdom and eventually became Prime Minister. Created the Feigned Retreat, the Mongol's most effective and devastating military tactic. He routinely defeated armies much larger than his. Undefeated in battles despite very limited resources.
Jebe - during a battle his arrow struck Genghis' neck or horse. Captured and then admitting this he was renamed "The Arrow" and given command. In 3 years he rose from the lowest rank to the top of the leadership. Instrumental in destroying the Chinese Jin and Liao dynasties.
Subutai - a commoner blacksmith who instead joined the Mongols at age 14. Directed more than 20 campaigns, conquered 32 nations, and won 65 battles. Conquered more territory than any other commander in history. Defeated the main armies of Poland and Hungary in 2 days.
After Genghis passed away his sons united & continued to expand the Empire. Rallying behind the third son Ogedei after a speech from their father:

"Not even a mighty warrior can break a frail arrow when it is multiplied and supported by its fellows..."
"...As long as you brothers support one another and render assistance to one another, your enemies can never gain victory over you..."
Genghis's grandsons, however, broke away from the bundle to become their own arrow. Fulfilling the last part of Genghis' speech to his sons:

"...But if you fall away from each other your enemy can break you like frail arrows, one at a time."
You must observe the Power of a Network. Like Genghis you may be good, but you need a strong team to be Great.

Teammates defend you where you are weak, and propel you where you are strong. Any member that falls is caught swiftly & any member succeeding is pushed farther.
Think of all the roles needed in any network. In a business group, a sports team, a family unit. Now imagine one person assuming every responsibility. The same level of success would not be possible.

There really is no such thing as a lone wolf. The pack hunts and eats together.
