I doubt Shelby’s cal limit is true as the show often inflates calories so my personal estimate is 500 , she said she would have a piece of toast for breakfast and a chocolate bar later on in the day + “forget” to eat lunch and dinner . Her partner said she doesn’t finish meals
Motivation:

Lauren: wants to play a more active role in her daughters life and her weight is a barrier to this

Shelby: also a mum and wants to gain some weight to feel more like a woman and less like a child , her daughter is her main motivation
Lauren’s trip to the U.S ——
Meets Betty who weighs 672lbs, she lives with her partner who she has to depend on . He also has to clean her and wipe her after she goes to the toilet .
Betty talks about how her weight is preventing her from having a child and she is upset about this.

She then shows Lauren how difficult it is for her to do basic activities such as grocery shopping . Her partner has to get a mobility scooter as she can’t hold her own weight

Dr Christian warns Lauren that if she continues her diet of 6000-8000 calories a day she will end up in the same position as Betty
