My first graduation definitely took a toll on us as a family - I had actually decided not to show up for the ceremony but my mom & uncle (pictured) went to all lengths to make me smile after a gruesome 3 years
.. my uncle actually sold his Golf car to make this possible. https://twitter.com/SibekoVince/status/1333642108859797504

To have been the first in both families to graduate meant a lot to them. They always say I don't understand what I've just done - and continue reiterating that I've broken generational curse.
They have both always stood by me even when I didn't believe in myself. They showed up each time I needed help even when they were struggling themselves. The words of affirmation, validation and motivation kept me going and taught me never to compare myself with my peers.
In 2020 I decided to enrol for my 2nd qualification with UNISA, what an incredibly difficult journey. I enrolled for this qualification with limited to no access to resources - literally! At some point I didn't think I'd make it, but again, I was yet reminded by my cheerleaders..
to hold on and understand the greater purpose. So here we are....!
This friday, the 23rd of April, I get to graduate in Absentia (due to Covid19) for my honours qualification. After an incredibly mentally, financially and emotionally taxing journey.
I would definitely still like to celebrate it with my loved one's at some point, it would mean a great deal to them.
