📣Here at CAS we are preparing for our AGM next week. We will be showcasing our #grants and #awards for local research. Over the next week we will be highlighting some of the opportunities and grant recipient research. Today we will looking at our CAS PAS Grant. 1/8 👉
Interested in archaeological finds? Want to publish in a reputable journal and have funding? @ChesterArchSoc are offering a ÂŁ700 grant to support the study of finds reported to @findsorguk from #Cheshire and surrounding areas and publish the results in their annual journal. 2/8
What is PAS? The PAS is a @DCMS funded project to encourage the voluntary recording of archaeological finds found by members of the public in England and Wales. It is run by @britishmuseum in England and @AmgueddfaCymru for Wales. 3/8
Many of the reported finds are discovered by metal detectorists but also by people out walking, gardening, or working. All finds are recorded on an online database which is publicly accessible at https://finds.org.uk/database  and range from the #palaeolithic to modern times. 4/8
The grant is aimed at new researchers wishing to undertake an in-depth study. Culminating in a #publication, the grant is perfect for PGs and ECRs, or anyone keen to boost their academic credentials. Previous research studied unpublished coin hoards and early medieval finds. 5/8
Other areas of potential research include surveys of the later #prehistoric and #Roman periods, or a targeted focus on groups of objects like #medieval dress accessories. There is also the possibility of a #battlefields survey based on large assemblages of lead shot. 6/8
Check out this blog about the grant with testimonials from previous grant winners @dwtpauline, @Carlisle_Carl and @Matt0791 on how it helped them with their research goals and starting PhDs.
