If you’re African and can’t code and are looking for how to break into crypto:
We’ve generally done a bad job of demonstrating how non-coders can intellectually apply themselves in crypto. Do a lot of research, set an incredibly high standard for the quality of your work then:
1. Most important thing is to think global! If you’re on Twitter, almost everyone in crypto is maximum of 3 intros away from you. Your market isn’t “Africa”. Apply yourself for the world!
2. Chronicle crypto history: you’ll be surprised the amount of rich crypto history exists. There is a market of learners that ain’t being served: Satoshi origins, Silk Road Bitcoin usage, 2016 ETH/ETC hard fork, Segwit 2x debate, 2017 ico boom, 2018/2019 bear, 2020 DeFi etc
3. Deeply learn economics: why is gold a good store of value? Why don’t bitcoiners like USD? What’s the issue with Keynesianism and quantitative easing? Influence of 2008 bailouts?
4. Art: why is art valuable? What have the issues with digital art and authenticity been? What is the exact value prop of NFTs? Quantitative data that indicates how big the market will be? Parallels between emergence of Art patrons and NFT buyers today?
5. Does crypto use too much energy? Is Bitcoin mining bad for the planet? Does it actually encourage clean energy generation?
6. Game theory: why is proof of stake a good idea? What is the game theory explanation for why mining works? What are risk factors around mining? What consensus algorithms have been tried?
7. Crypto UX is broken and crypto lingo is insular: extensive research that births incredibly well written and thought out explainers on what’s going on in the space and high level technical concepts.
8. Futurism: how will crypto usher in pseudonymity. Influence on creator economy?
9. Finance and maths: how do we think about valuation in crypto? What have finance folks traditionally done? What are novel ways of applying this to crypto? Is there historical data that corroborates this?
