Here’s what may have happened in Houston. We know:
1/ Owner in back seat, other in passenger seat, both buckled
2/ Autopilot not engaged
3/ Car drove 200 yards and hit tree @ 60 mph
4/ $TSLA speed has to be >10 mph to engage AS/CC
5/ If AS on, CC can’t go >5 mph above speed limit
2/ Driver likely failed to activate AS but activated CC before climbing into back seat. It’s the only way car could get to 60mph in 25mph zone. If AS & CC engaged, $TSLA would be limited to 5mph over speed limit. Before crash, front passenger tried to turn wheel, deactivating CC.
3/ Clearly, $TSLA AP not used as intended. AP was designed for highway use with clear lane markings, not city streets. TSLA never advised driver to climb into back seat and let car drive itself. AS was likely never activated, and car accelerated into tree due to driver error.
