This week's #WednesdayWritingTips are about being an effective writer and are brought to you by the letter D. Because today I like the letter D.
1) Determination
If you want to be an effective writer, you need determination. There will always be setbacks. Pick yourself up and find a way to get on with it, because the world of writing will carry on with or without you. Said in (tough) love

2) Discipline
A story won't write itself. You have to actually write it. I know... it stinks. Set a regular time to write, not just when you feel like it. Bit like pushing through a pain barrier sometimes but it works. Set deadlines/goals and reward yourself

3) Decisions
Make decisions wisely. You have limited time/money/resources. Do you need to enter every competition? Do you need to keep going on that story you've lost interest in? What could you invest in? What is the BEST USE of your time right now?

4) Desire
You have to REALLY want to write, because frankly if you don't, determination and discipline are going to be HAAAARD. Work out what floats your boat. What do you want from your writing? What do you want to share with the world? What is important?

5) Daringness
You need courage. You need to dare to tackle a story; dare to share it; dare to submit it... To be most effective, you'll need to take risks, try new things, reach out of your comfort zone. It's often there you discover some incredible things.

6) Do it all again
And if things don't quite work out, whether you have to do a rewrite or you're dealing with a rejection, you need to go through all the Ds again. And keep doing them. And keep doing them. Impossible as it seems, you will get somewhere
