One of the biggest challenges facing the next Welsh Government will be education recovery and resilience. A quick thread on whats needed & the main parties plans in the Senedd elections đŸ§”đŸŽó §ó ąó ·ó Źó łó ż
Welsh Labour commit to an extra 1,800 tutoring staff in schools, but don't provide any details on the likely cost or required spend

Such plans are quite modest though, about 1 tutor for every 250 pupils
Welsh Conservatives commit to an extra 5,000 teachers & to increase school funding, but don't provide any numbers on costs

5,000 extra teachers is expensive, probably ÂŁ250m

Without a large increase in school funding, this would be hard to afford without a 4-5 year pay freeze
Plaid Cymru commit to 4,500 extra teachers & support staff, 10% pay boost, more professional learning, free primary meals & more

The manifesto doesn't give any costs, but an accompanying assessment suggests ÂŁ690m over a Senedd term to cover everything
A lack of detail makes it very hard to do a proper comparison, but Plaid plans probably get closer to what is required for education recovery

I'll also be keen to hear what @Guto_Ifan & co have to say about whether all the parties' plans add up ( https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/events/view/2511972-wales-fiscal-analysis-election-briefing-event)
All the parties plans should be much more ambitious on education recovery & more targeted at disadvantaged pupils, who have faced the biggest difficulties over the past year
I'm also quite disappointed by the lack of spending & costing details across all the manifestos.

Yes, there are uncertainties about future budgets, but an informed public debate & proper system of accountability requires transparency on what commitments actually cost
