France has warned that if chaos spreads in the region, it could create a void that would be filled by the Islamic State groups.
The French Defence Ministry says that these militant groups have the objective of taking control of entire territories and warned West Africa could potentially become another danger zone like Raqqa in Syria, which could threaten the entirety of the region.
France is aware it is losing ground in West Africa and is looking to bring in international involvement. They are already engaging US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in an effort to secure a broader mandate and support from the United States.
Lets not kid outselves. Events are unravelling at an inorganic pace. One would expect the topic of discussion to be about the end of a 32 year dictatorship and a new dawn for the people of Chad. Instead we are getting Doomsday messages. The French do not want to leave the region
..and is already engineering events that will serve as an excuse for them to stay. The President of Chad for instance should be the Speaker since Chad has not had a Vice President since 1992. No one is talking about pushing for democracy in Chad. Where is Amnesty International?
Abacha's death gave Nigeria a new opportunity to join the global community of democratic states. The demise of Derby should by all account follow the same trajectory. Instead his unelected son has taken over the reins of power and the West is fine with it.
France has 5,500 military personnel stationed in Mali. An anti-terrorism academy in Ivory Coast. A Squadron of Mirage 2000 in Niger. A drone base in Chad and two air force base in Mali. Is finishing work on the construction of an air base in Garoua Cameroon.
The security situation in the region is deteriorating in sync with increasing French military footprint. Why are the two oldest constitutional democracies in the world not talking about freedom for Chad. Don't they deserve to opportunity to develop
.like Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria?
Idris Derby squandered the nations oil wealth in the space of 13 years. Who in their right mind will believe Chad was once an oil rich nation? It is incredibly unfair for the Chadian people to see their nation turned into an absolute monarchy.
The problem of terrorism in the region will end if francophone states are granted real independence. If France leaves alone. Of course its certainly not in the best interest for France if terrorism ends in the region. Because they need a legitimate reason to be here..
..to continue turning these impoverished countries into an unsinkable aircraft carrier or military outposts. Providing dictators with arms to continue subjugating their people and crush pro democracy movements. Think about it..after seven years
of French military intervention in the region, the creation of a G-5 Security alliance and with seven military bases, the security situation is deteriorating. That's not how nature works. When Nigeria intervened in S-leone and Liberia that wasn't the case.
When Nigeria deployed troops and air assets to the Gambia that wasn't the case. Compare that to the situation of the countries France has significance military presence in. In Mali the President was critical about continued French military presence in his country.
Within one week there was palace coup. The President and his family were basically handcuffed and driven to a detention facility. How is this possible in a country that plays host to 5,000 French troops and air bases. And what was Macron response to the coup? He called for calm.
ECOWAS needs to claim back some leadership in the regional fight against terrorism. There is a strong institutional rivalry among ECOWAS and the G-5 Sahel in the fight against terror.
Much time has been wasted in competing for visibility and credibility.
ECOWAS members should use the organisation’s experience in peace operations to construct an efficient coordination mechanism as has been the case for decades.
There should be a cohesive political leadership in dealing with external partners whose support often comes with constraints and agendas and before we know it they are firmly rooted and refuse to leave. They will rather stage crises to legitimize their presence
How was ECOWAS infiltrated? When Tuareg rebels took control of northern Mali in 2013. The Malian government called on France for help.

This triggered what was basically the francophone invasion of ECOWAS. The French hastily deployed forces to the region, with Chad.
Since then, ECOWAS and the African Union have been relegated to supporting roles in managing Mali’s crisis. Within months France built a military base in Mali. They created the G-5 Sahel military alliance as a counterweight to ECOWAS military intervention mechanism
Several sub-regional counter-terrorism initiative were blocked. Attempts at economic integration was sabotaged . At one point the French were bankrolling Morocco to become an ECOWAS member states to servr as a counterweight to Nigeria's economic leverage in the region.
The ECOWAS Single Currency Initiative -ECO was hijacked and derailed. Instead terror threats started expanding in Lake Chad Basin. Suddenly we had ISIS in West Africa. Straight out of the blue. The French were able to accomplish this with the help of autocratic regimes
..in West Africa. Pro democracy groups in Cameroon was squashed and a 90 year old dictator still rules Cameroon. Forty two years in power. In Mali the elected President was swept aside in a coup because of a statement critical of France. Turning Mali back into a dictatorship.
Niger's President was incredibly lucky after the attempted coup and basically sought Nigeria for refuge. What happened when the AU Ambassador Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao in a speech criticized French exploitation of francophone states via its colonial tax scheme? She was FIRED
ARIKANA CHIHOMBORI-QUAO: No

QUOTE

No more shall we continue to be exploited. France can no longer take 500 billion out of Africa.

END OF QUOTE

She was accused of fraudulent activities and fired shortly after. It's time to wake up AFRICA.
