Some thoughts from the past 72 hours: I wonder if the Big 6 will ever be a thing again?

This crisis has shown they have vastly different motivations

Chelsea + Man City models aren’t aligned to LFC + MUFC motives + I doubt they’ll ever line up together so willingly again...
THFC + AFC were always just hanging on to coat-tails. If they’re no use to LFC + MUFC in driving change (which is dead) then presumably they can cast them adrift to Europa Conference League hell (obvs LFC may be spending some time with them in purgatory next season)...
Overall Wenger (again) nailed it when he said it was bizarre English clubs went for it as it would kill PL. And that’s their golden goose..
Essentially this is a crisis of Latin European football - Barca, Real, Madrid, (and to some extent Juve) are at their weakest for years and face genuine existential issues. (They will survive of course but next 10 years will be hard)....
Eng clubs could have used this moment but colluded to (attempt to) save Real Madrid + Barca. Why? I believe it’s because J W Henry + Glazers saw the chance to manipulate crisis into a North American style franchise. Essentially greed got the better of their good judgement...
The scale of their catastrophic misjudgement is that they have killed of any chance of being in vanguard of reform, burnt all political capital and goodwill. AND with govt review, they now have a heap load of regulatory issues, which will be anathema to them...
Once again, never overestimate the intelligence of the wealthy or the average football executive. They’re rich and powerful. But that doesn’t mean they’re smart....
One small example @GNev2 mentioned. There are acres of industrial land around Old Trafford left undeveloped in 16 years of Glazer ownership. How is that smart? They are more like feudal landlords who inherited an huge rural estate in 18th century...
You’d be a fool to ruin it (they’ve come close at times) Being moderately OK at running it (probably best you can say of Glazers) requires only a modicum of intelligence....
Previously the big 6 were allowed to trundle on, doing what they wanted. Let’s see what govt review brings but they now run risk of legal bar on future breakaways (decreasing leverage), enforced fan representation in ownership model, wealth taxes, greater FA say in business....
Last thing: on John W Henry. He’s not been able to come to Anfield to celebrate what should be one of his life’s great achievements, the title win...Now when he finally does come back, presumably security dictates it’ll be behind darkened windows, in exec box, not in public...
I’m not saying he would have had a hero’s welcome but there would presumably have been a huge amount of goodwill. He saved LFC from Hicks + Gillett. Now he’ll barely be able to show his face in the city and will be remembered for his greed. What a legacy
