BREAKING: Labor just voted not to make free school breakfast & lunches available for every Queensland state school kid.

Meaning that up to an estimated 90,000 Qld kids are likely to continue to go without breakfast every single day.
Instead they amended the motion to just acknowledge the inadequate program that we currently have here in Queensland. They’ve talked at length how everything is fine, and seem to have implied that no kid in state schools in Queensland goes without breakfast.
But the reality is around 1 in 5 kids currently go to school hungry. The status quo that's been agreed to tonight will mean that up to an estimated 90,000 Queensland kids will continue to go without breakfast every single day.
Foodbank is doing an absolutely incredible job with the funding they have here in Queensland. But right now they only have enough funding to provide 1,000 breakfast per week
Qld Labor knows better than everyone there’s around 500,000 kids at state schools in Qld. And that Foodbank’s Rumble Tummies Report revealed that in 2020 1 in 5 kids went to school without breakfast. That’s around 100,000 kids in Qld state schools going to school hungry.
Foodbank delivers breakfast to 1,000 of those kids, and other incredible organisations and local P&Cs pitch in what they can. But it still leaves a massive gap.
The debate finished with a Labor MP telling me how “bitter” they feel that I won 🌈💞✨
