i've been thinking lately about marxism, christianity, and the zeal of the convert.
the term "zeal of the convert" refers to the phenomenon where people who convert to a new religion often become the most outspoken and sometimes even radical advocates of it
in terms of christianity, a heavily moralistic religion, this often manifests as converts condemning the world around them for being insufficiently pious. the WBC is the most notably extreme example, but this is an attitude that's a lot more common in the US than you might think.
for my part, i have grown more fervent in my hatred of capitalism these last few years, and i truly believe that for a corporation to be owned by private investors is inherently immoral and unacceptable. this thread explains my thoughts on why https://twitter.com/wehpudicabok/status/1355597393077563396?s=19
marxism isn't a religion, of course, but it *is* a philosophy (or more broadly a family of related philosophies), and its morality is part of that. while i certainly don't hold marx to be above criticism, i do think that his critique of capitalism is broadly very good
