Revivalists often paint hell as teeming with people trying to get out because of how torturous it is. I don’t think that’s the case. Hell is ultimately separation from God. Those cut off from him will hate him for it and want nothing to do with him. That will be the real torture.
Christians often teach hell in a very cartoony way which leads people to end up rejecting the concept entirely. Many Christians that grow up learning hell like this learn to fear it, but Christians ought not fear it because it is insignificant compared to God.
Existing eternally being aware of your insignificance, knowing God is everything, and being cast away from Him provides more punishment than anyone who focus on fire and brimstone could ever imagine.
