I watched the Columbus body cam and I'm stunned by how a cop resorts to the gun and stands back instead of grabbing the girl. Yes, the girl was trying to stab another girl, but I dont think she even noticed the cop when he's talking with this inside voice while people scream.
The footage shows the officer roll up and a boy and a girl are whooping this girl who collapses on the sidewalk. Lots of screaming. The girl then turns around and prepares to stab a girl in pink before the officer who meekly asks 'whats going on' whips out a pistol and shoots her
If the cop had screamed and aggressively pushed these brawling kids away from each other, likely the fight would've ended. Yes, the risk is that the girl gets stabbed and that's bad but kids fight with knives in many countries and cops dont instantly shoot.
American police are clearly trained to resort to the gun every time. Man, hit the girl with your baton or kick her or something but dont whisper "whats going on" and then step far out of view of the kids and shoot her. He could've also shot the potential stabbing victim.
We should expect much better from our problem-solving institutions that the option behind every 911 call and every physical dispute isn't being shot within 10 seconds of being there.
You cant just kill people based on the non-zero possibility that you may be hurt. If you can't handle stepping in-between a teenage brawl rather than instantly stepping back with a mee k voice and shooting the teenagers seconds after you arrive then you should get another job.
I'm not going to pretend like attempting to stab someone is willy-nilly and not possible homicide. But I'm reminded of fighting a boy in class in high school and my wimpy dorky english teacher jumped up and tackled us immediately immobilizing the fight rather than shooting us.

Cops need to stop being such a fucking pussy, man. Spend more time at the gym than the gun range.
