Mask of the Phantasm appreciation post
I love the world of the future because it represents the characters. It shows what they possibly could be. A family life that's bright and hopeful. But the future ends up dark, twisted, corrupted and ends up going up in flames.

I also love the similarities with these shots. One he has the woman of his dreams and the other is Bruce accepting his fate/destiny of being alone.
I also appreciate that they hired Stacy Keach to do the voice of the Phantasm.
It keeps the twist a secret. I feel like nowadays they'd just put a filter on the female voice, surprising no one.

I love that Mask of the Phantasm also successfully does the two villian formula without being too much. It's such a well crafted balance unlike most live action Batman adaptations.
Another amazing subtle moment that sets things up:
Andrea is established that she can take care if herself during Bruce's training. Probably overlooked during viewings but its important so its believable she is the Phantasm. Set up and pay off is so important.

Not entirely perfect though.
I always thought this scene was cheesy BUT it is what it is.

One last fun fact tweet.
I believe this was the first movie where I was introduced to flashbacks. As an adult, you take flashbacks for granted.
As a kid, you have to put it together yourself. "What? The story went back before? Oh, okay."
