The problem with Christianity is that it tries to make death worthwhile. It’s an evil obsession.
George Floyd did not sacrifice. He was murdered. But Pelosi needs the first sentence to be true.

Jesus did not die for our sins. He was murdered. But so many need the first sentence to be true.
Whenever we get rid of this obsession with death having significant meaning and usefulness, we’ll have humane and compassionate reactions when folks are murdered. At the very least!
We might even have a world where punishment (enforced by prisons and police) is no longer the motivation/consequence/profitable system.
Speaker Pelosi said the quiet part out loud. She really only repeated what many preachers said on Easter.
I’m not saying that’s [Black] preachers’ fault; I’m saying this is what happened when the most dominant/dominating religion in this God-forsaken country is based on “I’ll take your beatings” but doesn’t actually know any other part of the biblical plot.
Because another girl across some states was murdered. I truly hope y’all don’t make her death useful/profitable. Because Makiyah Bryant was 15. And she should be here.
We deserve so much more life and beauty and fullness than what is right now. This is why I couldn’t celebrate the decision, and I don’t care if you see me as “cynical” or “she never has any joy” because of it. I don’t. I don’t have joy in this, i take my joy elsewhere.
Because “celebrating this win” doesn’t stop us from being murdered. We are not free. And i will not celebrate a damned system occasionally damning itself. Not when minutes later they steal us AGAIN.
If you can acknowledge that he *deserves* to be here, does that not say something about the depravity of prison as a project ? And if it is depraved, why do we allow (philosophically, socially, economically) our people to be here?
I’m not having a hard time being disgusted at prison in this moment. Because prison is not a punishment I believe in or value. I’m not a conflicted abolitionist.

and. I honor that this brings stuff up for folks. that is human.
at the very least, I don’t want That Man in the same location our people are. I don’t want him near our people. And prisons are full of Our People.
Abolition. Period. Cuz I’m tired of being here.

In jesus name.

Damn.
