There are a few things I look for when investing in open core businesses based on my experience operating and investing in these companies. An open core company needs to lay the foundation for strong bottoms-up adoption and create meaningful value in the commercial offering (1/4)
For strong, bottoms-up GTM, I look for:
- An easily adoptable open source project
- A community that goes beyond posting bugs and discussing feature requests
- A founding team that is empathetic and includes leaders of the open source project (2/4)

To create meaningful value from the commercial offering, I look for:
- A managed offering that doesn& #39;t just solve IT needs but offers a drastically better UX for the end-user
- Enables enterprise collaboration in a way that engages stakeholders across multiple teams (3/4)
