the ma'khia bryant shooting — information for those looking to be educated

- ma'khia was a 16 year old girl
- she was shot in columbus, ohio this afternoon
- the police were called for an attempted stabbing
- ma'khia's mother reports that her daughter was the one who called the police because girls were fighting outside her house

ma’khia was said to have a knife for self defense against the girls she called the police about. she called the police and had the knife because she feared for her life and wanted protection.

multiple shots were fired by the police who murdered ma’khia. as of now, 4 shots were reported.

i’ve seen a lot of tweets trying to justify the cop shooting her four times. i’d just like to say, and this is completely my opinion, that there are so many effective deescalation techniques that could have been used besides shooting a person four times...

...my outrage is still present because she was unnecessarily murdered when she could have been taken down by a taser or a shot to the foot. why would anyone need to shoot four times to take someone down?

no, ma’khia was not completely innocent. she had a knife and was trying to stab people. but that doesn’t mean she needed to be shot 4 times. i’ll say it again, the police need better training and better deescalation techniques.
