Also, making suicide a way for a queer person to get out of the matrix is uh… wow… that's a plot point

I'm pretty sure it came from a real source of 90s trans anger and heartbreak, screaming "This Was The Only Way Out Of The Closet" for our queer siblings.

Myself included.

I remember seeing this (The Animatrix segment, The Kid) and just not really able to process it. I had been in a teen psych ward a year before this film for suicidal thoughts. I would attempt multiple suicides a few years after. This short had very little effect on me, I'm sure.

I wish it did though. I wish it was better at inspiring me to find a healthier way to community. Not expecting Steven Universe. But then again The Matrix films crawled so Steven Universe could run. It was the best we had at the time for queer media that made it through the system
