The difference between a typewritten “lol” and a “hahaha” is huge, in terms of impact on your reader. When you type “hahaha,” your reader pictures you, specifically, laughing. They conjure up the sound of your laugh in their mind’s ear.
It is a much warmer and more effective way of bonding with someone, for business or for pleasure, but only IF they have actually heard your laugh in person before. If not, stay away from “lol” and “haha” in all business writing. It makes you sound young and dumb and insecure.
And I make these observations only AFTER I’ve smoked my first pot for the day on 4/20. No wonder epileptic kids are treated with cannabinoids nowadays. It helps me focus.
