I don't want to sound rude but.. .People who say "Asuna is the main girl but she's replaceable by Sinon/Alice/Sugu" ..Do they really know the story? Because that's just false and really disrespectful to what the author wrote, you know?
Literally none of those characters ever did what Asuna did in the whole story? And we're not talking about who's better or who's worse, because everyone has their own preferences +
but we're talking about events that happened in the series that only happened because of Asuna's presence and that NO OTHER character could ever have done.
You don't like Asuna? That's fine, but before you "claim" certain things about the plot, you need to get it into your head that SAO exists because of Kirito AND Asuna. And saying things like that means that you haven't paid attention to the story because of your bias
which is sad since you claim to be an SAO fan. Now let's summarize a bit of what Asuna did in the series and see if she is still "replaceable".
- Progressive
You do know that Kirito was literally a different person at the beginning SAO, right? He took the blame for everyone to protect beta testers and was constantly attacked by other players
Who do you think was with him giving him strength and affection?
Yeah, ASUNA.

Yeah, ASUNA.
He saw hope in her, hope to clear the game and decided to protect her and stay with her no matter what.
If it wasn't for Asuna, Kirito would have been left alone from the second floor, hated by everyone, but she saved him, they saved each other.

So if you think Progressive is "not canon" or that the characters are "different versions" well, you're dead wrong
Everything that happens in Progressive is what Kirito and Asuna experienced before they became the people they now are and guess what?

They are who they are because they both went through those experiences TOGETHER.
Asuna is the person who made Kirito the person he is.
No Sinon, no Leafa, no Alice. And that alone doesn't make her replaceable.

Oh and side comment, do me a favor and read Progressive before you talk about it, I see too many people saying "it's overrated/fan service" without even reading it
You don't have to hate it just because your waifu isn't there, you know?

-Aincrad arc
I simply begin by saying that if it weren't for Asuna, Kirito would have died, quite simply
He wouldn't even have the dual blade skill...

The prerequisite for getting the 10 unique skill is having the Awakening skill which Kirito only got in Progressive 6 due to his feeling for Asuna and his desire to protect her. And that's the only way he can get it. Only because of the thought of Asuna in his head.
And thing aside, I find it really silly to say that a character is replaceable when every character in the series has a specific role. Klein, Lisbeth, Silica, none of these are "replaceable" tbh
Read the story objectively, not just for your favorite character
Read the story objectively, not just for your favorite character
So yeah?
Without Asuna Kirito wouldn't even come out of the game, so explain to me how characters that didn't exist before Aincrad can "replace" Asuna

Now going beyond Fairy Dance (where Kirito says that without Asuna he would never have been able to move forward)
GGO This is the only arc where she hasn't a key role (since Kirito doesn't want to put her in danger) BUT she still has important moments. Asuna not only helped Kirito to beat Death Gun, thanks to her Kirito went to help Sinon
(Asuna told him that the name "Sterven"(?) had a hidden meaning in german, so Kirito realized that Sinon could be in danger from her medical student friend. Also also, in the LN Asuna became Sinon first real friend.
Mother's Rosario (She has a TON of character development her, that you obviously didn't notice since you were too busy hating her)
Now let's talk about Alicization, because.. If you think that she's replaceable there, you really have to re-read the arc and pay attention to it, but, since I'm a kind person, I will help you understand, let's summarize all the points
If higa managed to find a way to wake up Kirito is ONLY thanks to the fact that Asuna infiltrated the RATH, logged in with the Stacia account and made Kirito's fluctlight having a reaction despite his potato-state
which Higa then managed to intercept and understand that he should have connected him to the main visualizer. Alice spent 6 months with Kirito, and he never had a shred of reaction, which is not something to blame on Alice, because what she did is still really important
She took care of him and if Kirito had no reaction it was simply because Kirito didn't know her well enough to have a strong bond with her.
See? No character is replaceable. Each of them has a unique and NECESSARY role.
See? No character is replaceable. Each of them has a unique and NECESSARY role.
The fact remains that Kirito was only able to wake up because Asuna infiltrated RATH.
No Alice, No Sinon, No Sugu but Asuna.
No Alice, No Sinon, No Sugu but Asuna.
While Alice was being kidnapped by Vector Asuna protected all the people from Underworld and fought back. And it was Asuna herself who saved Bercouli's life when she first descended into Underworld.
Kirito's words:
Kirito's words:
And then, I think this is one of the most important things..
"There was only one thing I could be sure of:
only with ASUNA by my side could I have returned to this world as the same person I was before."
Do I need to add anything else?

Oh, well, maybe I should add the tweet where the author says that SAO is Kirito and Asuna's story and that Asuna's words symbolize EVERYTHING.

So... *cough* I got carried away and this thread is longer than I thought it would be
I'm sorry
Now I leave you with a few last words

Now I leave you with a few last words
Saying that "Asuna is boring because she is "badly written" it's the biggest lie and not an "opinion"
As a matter of fact, Kirito and Asuna are the most developed characters in the whole series, which is totally normal since they have key roles in every arc +

and a whole series for them, focused on their characterization. (sao progressive).
So yeah, you don't like her? That's fine, But avoid saying "she's poorly written" and limit yourself to saying that you don't enjoy her personality, which is fine.

I mean, we all have our preferences, am I right?
Although I would advise that repeating this every single day makes you sound really boring, I would focus on what I love instead of what I don't like, but maybe we're different (thankfully)
