On March 14, 2021, the federal American Rescue Plan went into effect. The massive expansion of federal benefits comes at a time when many Californians’ initial claims for #unemployment benefits are also coming to the end of their benefit year.
At the end of a benefit year, most claimants will need to reapply for benefits. When reapplying, EDD will run claims through fraud screening and identity verification as a standard practice to safeguard the process.
If a claimant doesn’t have enough in wages earned over the last 18 months to qualify for a new regular UI claim, EDD will proceed with federal extension benefits the claimant is eligible to receive.
Individuals will be notified via email, text message, or mailed written notice, when the new claim is processed, which may take up to three weeks. For more information about Benefit Year End: http://Bit.ly/UIBYE
