How to Harness the Power of Roam's Daily Notes Page Roam's Daily Notes Page structure may be its greatest stumbling block.
Ironically, it's the tool's greatest superpower.
Ironically, it's the tool's greatest superpower.
Why the DNP is genius:
⢠There's no thinking about where to put a note first.
⢠Whatever's in your head goes here first.

THEN you can:
⢠Organize the info with tags
â˘Â Move it to a calendar
⢠Repurpose it as an email, blog post, Twitter thread
â˘Â Create a Day One or Notion entry
⢠Share it with someone else as a Google doc
â˘Â Create structure within your DNP using category headings or areas

⢠Decide which 3 or 4 areas make sense for you most days.
Maybe you journal in the mornings, have several calls throughout the day, and engage in cycles of focus work. If so, your Daily Notes Page could look like this:
[[Morning Pages]]
[[Meetings]]
[[interstitial Journal]]

⢠Build a template using Roam's onboard template engine. (copy and paste this if you want)
My Daily Notes Page [[roam/templates]]*
[[Morning Pages]]
[[Meetings]]
[[interstitial Journal]]
* (the page ref roam/templates) is what allows Roam to see this as a template.

When you're ready to invoke the template each morning, you hit the semicolon
;;
twice and choose the template you want from your menu of templates.

Your template will change over time and most likely your number of headings will grow.
You can beautify your Daily Notes template with some CSS sprinkles, but if you're spending so much time tinkering with the template, you won't get the joy of learning to use it and let it grow with you.
