why you shouldn’t put trigger warnings on food: a thread by someone with an ed (please rt)
a lot of people with eating disorders on the internet are actively attempting to recover, and even for those who are not, seeing something labeled as a “trigger” gives it the connotation that it’s bad. we are trying to learn that food isn’t something to be feared+
and making it a warning gives the impression that it is. however, some people still avoid tweets and pictures about food for their own safety, and have the word muted, especially if they know things like that aren’t good for them to see. so, what’s the solution?
just add the word ‘food’ somewhere in your tweet. a great way to do this is simply putting ‘food//‘ or ‘food:’ before a tweet related to food or eating. this prevents it from showing up on the tl for people who have the word muted, and for those who don’t,
you aren’t giving them the impression that food is something to be feared. it’s the only solution to the discourse i’ve really come up with— if you have any others, feel free to share. thank you for listening
