🌅🌅 NEGENTROPY seen from the eyes of a Korean-learning language freak, as well as translation student and non-professional writer 🌅🌅

Aka me.

BUT. First of all
- This is 100% my interpretation
- This thread has two parts: the songs and the general link to the Book of Us story I talked about weeks ago (quoted tweet down)
- Each song will be analyzed from 2 points of view: lyrics (interesting Korean stuff) and relation w/ other BoU songs
Having said that.

This is a free-style long thread, so bear until the end to see my crazy mind

Let's: GO 🍀🍀🍀🍀

(Btw qrt/like/rt, dont reply if u read it ;;)
I forgot to add in the intro that I looked to both the Korean lyrics and several translations, but mainly Genius' translations to English

I also looked up several words AND I admit to have used papago to see what the ai and search better

(Time spent on this: 2 freaking hours)
1. everyday we fight

General idea: a couple who fights constantly, but they actually like to fight because through those sincere, honest moments, which may include harsh words, they just get closer. Many people ask them WHY they date if they keep fighting but:
From the lyrics, the second verse is already worthy to speak of: 싸우다 보면 또 풀려

- 다(가) 보면 > you keep doing sth for a while and then think/revise what you've done (as we keep fighting [if I think of it]

- 풀리다: passive verb, for sth to come out/free/release
So, "as we keep fighting, (it) comes out". What? Probably anger or everything they have kept inside

That's why I say it's about a couple fighting so much people ask them why they are still dating
Another verse: We know 참아 주는 게
우리 사이에는 그 무엇보다 해롭다는 걸

- 우리 사이에는: between us two, plus the -는 indicates a comparison with other x

"We know that having patience [keeping it inside], between us, is more harmful than anything else"
Another: 있는 힘껏 털어낸 순간 가까워지는 우릴 느껴

- 힘껏: with all your might/strength; your best

- 털어내다: to shake off sth, get sth out

- ~지: in this case, to indicate that sth gradually gets a characteristic (be closer)

"I feel we becoming closer +
the moment we get out/shake off with the strength we have" aka the moment they are sincere, they become closer because they are: stronger

Next: 꾸밈없는 모습이 좋아, that's how we love

- 꾸밈없는: simple > frank > honest, direct

"I like your honest appearance"
Next: 사랑할 수 밖에 없게 만들어
- 수 밖에 없다: that there is no option that whatever comes before

"You make me (in a way that) there is no option but to love"*

(*free style trans to make it possible to understand, lit. would be "that there is nothing besides i can love u" ±)
As what songs I relate it too:

1. OUCH (Entropy)
Reason: in Ouch, besides the meme of the banana, we have someone who is trying hard to satisfy their lover, but they just keep being hurt (during fights?) by their harsh words (image down)

2. Not Fine: summary, miscommunication
Not Fine talks about how someone and their s/o aren't communicating. This leads to moments where the s/o is coldly glaring at them and they just keep hurting each other.

Miscommunication and not being honest leads to ruthless fights, whereas in everyday we fight +
We have communication, through fights.

It is a change, indeed.
2) You make Me

General: actually, I think we all get the idea? Someone who finds strength thanks to their s/o, who they desperately don't want to let go

So, onto the lyrics bc this one I have thingies, especially from the chorus
First: 이렇게 버티잖아

I only wanted to point out that 잖아 ending means that the speaker is saying sth that the hearer knows/should know, as in "this, you know". It appears in many songs but it's nice
Next: 붙잡아줘

Ignoring Young K's amazing voice, 붙잡다 is usually translated as "hold", but also "detain, arrest". So the speaker is actually asking that person to hold them really, really, really hard and not let them go as if they were arrested
Then: 너라는 행복을 찾았기에
- 기에 is one I like: "because", but in the meaning of "because I have this experience", then the other clause is "I think/say/act like this".

Also: 두렵고 버겁긴 하지만
- 버겁긴 means sth "tough", "beyond one's capability" so it's a:
"Although it is scary and beyond my capabilities"/"it is scart and beyond my capabilities but"

Songs I relate to this one:
1. Rescue me (Entropy, once again)

In Rescue me, the speaker says several times that their s/o is their paradise and can only live thanks to them
2. Where the sea sleeps (Gluon)

In WTSS, the singer asks their s/o to be forever with them, to not let go because then they, the singer, will just fall apart. They need their s/o to continue on
3) Healer

General: the singer is cured by their s/o words and actions. They are someone who has suffered, but the love and care from the person they love gives them peace and calmness. Even the most mundane things are nice.

Onto lyrics worthy of commenting
First: 씻겨 내려 줘
- 씻다 is to wash away, so it gives the idea of being "cleansed" or even purified

Other: 괜찮아지면 날 보면 나도 신기해
- 지: again, becoming sth > When looking at the me who is becoming better, I too think it's amazing, basically
Another: 상처받은 하루였더라도 다친 맘을 안고
- 더라도: 더 indicates that someone is actually remembering something. The whole 더라도 it's usually translated as "regardless if" and the second clause is sth that ALWAYS happens

"Even if it was a day (I remember) that I'm hurt"
Another: 날 웃음 짓게 해 넌 = you make me smile
- Only that 짓다 has the sense of making piece by piece, like fixing sth and constructing it. That gives a deeper meaning to the "you make me smile", right?
Remember the 상처받은? It reminds of all these songs:

1. Thanks to (Gluon)
A person with scars is held by their s/o

2. Cover (Gravity)
A person with scars, hides them
3. Rescue me (Entropy)

Healer is like the lighter-sounding counterpart of Rescue me. While RM asks desperately for that person who can heal them, in Healer they are more like subtly thanking them and find amazing how they feel better thanks to someone they love
4) 둘도 아닌 하나
General: beautiful beautiful- [coughs] basically, and in a quite fascinating way, we find that the singer is actually trying to make sure that their s/o knows that they only love that person, who keeps staring at them with a nervous look huh
I only have one verse here to comment bc in general the lyrics are quite straight-forwards and the English trans keep quite well the meaning: 내 사랑에 그저 몸을 맡긴 채 날 바라봐줘

- ㄴ 채 means "in the state of doing sth", while "doing that action" (like "while wearing a hat")
- 맡기다 usually means sth along the lines of entrusting someone with sth or depositing sth

- Since there are no more people specified besides the 날, it could be either

"While just entrusting your body to my love, look at me" and "while just entrusting my body to my love..."
Whatever the meaning, it is quite the interesting choice of words at least

+ Songs

Just because, for once, it is the other person who seems afraid to being let go and not the singer, it reminded me of 2 where the opposite happens:

1. Not mine
2. Like a flowing wind
5) 구름 위에서

We've reached my favourite, we all know that it is dedicated to someone who is gone now and how we should remember them dearly instead of hurting

I have A LOT to say about the lyrics bc Jae you're a genius (as well as day6 as a whole ofc)
First, the entire song is in informal language. While this happens a lot in songs due to syllable counting, it feels more intimate and as if the speaker spoke to someone close to them, even with questions (니, 지...)
I'm in love with the chorus

이젠 떠난 널 떠올리며 아파하기 보다 함께했었던 그 날들을 다 추억하며 웃어 보려 해

- 이젠 has the ㄴ from 는, which indicates, between other nuances, comparison (like now, but not before)

- 떠나다 is to leave/go away
- 떠올리다: to arise > come up > think of you (when you come up [in my mind])

- 함께했었던: 던 indicates a relative clause about sth from the past that the speaker can recall, that happened many times and that may still be happening, while 았던/었던 means it's finished
But even more: the past of 한께하다 would be only 함께했다... 함께했었던 indicates even more past

- 추억하며: while 기억하다 and 추억하다 share meaning (to remember), the second has to do with an emotional memory from the past
- 웃어 보려 해: 려 하다 is just to indicate that you put effort into doing something. Joined with 보다 (보려) here, it is a "putting effort into trying to smile"

So

"Rather than hurting while the you who is now gone comes in my mind, I will put effort into trying to smile +
while reminiscing those days we spent together (many times as I can remember)"

Another: 약속해줬으면 해
- (ㅡ)면 하다: please do sth (if you can, d it)
- 주다 here indicates that it's like a favour is the other person does it
Also, the chorus from before could also be "While you come up in my mind, instead of hurting, I will put effort into trying to smile and remember those days we spent together"

Depending on *where* you decide to divide each part huh
Songs:

1. Best part
Just because memories of youth, of wanting to keep those days in your mind

2. Wanna go back
Remembering a time when you were happy in the past
6) 무적 (ONE)

If we are one, we can deal with everything, doesn't matter the ending, we are together. That's the message

I don't have much more to add, but the word play with 무적 (invincibility) and 무조건 (unconditionality) makes the 부서지지 않는 무적 quite funny +
Since it could be "invincibility which isn't breaken" or "unconditionality which isn't breaken"

As for songs, once again Rescue me and Where the sea sleeps came to mind by the general meaning of the songs (already said before in this thread!)
7) 우리 앞으로 더 사랑하자

As sad as it sounds, this one goes about someone asking for a kind of second chance bc they messed up and they want to hang on their love for longer

Lyrically, I have a few notes:
불안한 내 마음을 붙잡아 줘
- The last part is part of You make Me, the part of holding and not letting go as if it was an arrest (so hold really hard). Whether they are related to each other, maybe it is bc this is like the sad other side of the same coin?
뜨거웠다고 - 차가워지고
- Hot and cold. We have seen these two terms clashing before in the Book of Us: the Demon. But let me talk about sth else real quick

더 사랑하자
- 더 is "more" but... More in quantity? Or more in time? Who knows
Now, as you may have guessed, my songs here are from the Demon, especially:

1. Day and Night
One being cold, the other being hot, never being in the same kind of wave? Due to the demon.
2. Tick Tock
The speaker doesn't talk with their s/o bc there's nothing left to speak about... or is it because they don't want to mess up?

[Lyrics from so let's love vs lyrics from tick tock]
3. Love me or leave me

The counterpart, to a certain degree, of so let's love is love me or leave me, where the singer asks the other person to either love them or just go, but please tell them

While in here, the singer asks for the other person to stay
🍀 End of part 1 🍀
