Namjoon: Persona

Persona is a “mask”, one that we wear in order to fit in with society. It helps us perform the roles that we have to play in our daily lives - in our family, in our relationships, in our career.

Persona is what the outside world perceives us to be. https://twitter.com/jessikatsu/status/1284474618472837120
Yoongi: Shadow

Shadow contains our repressed desires and perceived weakness, our impulses and instincts. These are hidden because they may not be viewed as “favorable” by society.

Shadow is what we don’t want in ourselves and what we don’t want others to see. https://twitter.com/jessikatsu/status/1285880708838207490
Hobi: Ego

Ego lies in the center of our consciousness. It gives us our sense of identity, the “I”. A healthy Ego allows us to confront our Shadow and acknowledge our Persona without identifying itself with them.

Ego is what we perceive ourselves to be. https://twitter.com/jessikatsu/status/1287288620148121601
Jimin: Filter

Maya, the “great illusion”, is a concept that Jung borrowed from Buddhism. He said that “Consciousness is Maya” since what we perceive may not be what’s real due to the “veil of Maya”.

Maya is like a “filter” both on how we see the world and how the world sees us. https://twitter.com/jessikatsu/status/1313368922565996546
The lyrics of Filter go...
“Let me know your type, you can and choose one of me.”
“Pick your filter, which of me do you want? I’ll change your world, I’m your filter.”

We are basically viewing the world with filters that we’ve made/chosen.

Jungkook: My Time

My Time is a reflection on one’s childhood. Though it expresses longing for childhood lost, it’s also about not losing oneself despite not experiencing life the same way as others and owning one’s pace, ones time.

My Time is holding on to one’s Inner Child. https://twitter.com/jessikatsu/status/1313368914168930304
Taehyung: Inner Child

Inner Child relates to the child archetype who views the world with wonder. Our inner child is constantly threatened to be swallowed by our fears and anxieties, so we must protect it against those.

Inner Child reminds us to change without losing ourselves. https://twitter.com/jessikatsu/status/1379836133354303491
In Blood, Sweat, and Tears, Taehyung is the wounded angel. A veil was lifted from him (veil of Maya!) and he showed Seokjin the reality aka lifted his veil of Maya too!

His tattoos in ON are like cracks in consciousness that allow the Unconscious (the Shadow!) to reveal itself. https://twitter.com/jessikatsu/status/1347203649437462532
Seokjin: Moon

Moon likens the relationship between Jin and ARMY to the Earth and its moon. It’s like the Jungian concept of the Golden Thread, which cannot be broken but exists only once the veil of Maya has been lifted.

Moon is about a lasting bond that can never be broken. https://twitter.com/jessikatsu/status/1313368925929836544
I often write about how important Jimin’s character is in the BU, and I feel in MOTS storyline it’s the same. His song, Filter, is like a turning point since it connects with the Maya. Once the Maya, the filter, is lifted, then acceptance, self-love, and individuation follows. 💜
