FILIPINO STAN TWITTER & ACTIVISM

I wrote up this thread because while I don't think international stan twitter is the ideal avenue for activism, I do think we can reorient the way we engage with PH issues on our stan accs in a way that makes a bigger impact.

ON PERFORMATIVE ACTIVISM. Whether you RT one thread or a hundred, if you don't care about the issues, RT-ing is ultimately performative and does little to actually change the system. It goes without saying but please do not use these issues to farm clout and pity points. 2/19
Steps you can take that make larger impacts than RTing a thread and guilt tripping mutuals into talking about issues: JOIN MASS ORGS. Write statements, prop materials. Attend educational discussions. Join integrations, mobilizations. Encourage your Filipino friends to join. 3/19
You can RT 0 threads on your stan twitter. RTing, talking about issues on your PERSONAL ACCOUNT with IRL Filipino mutuals, actively participating in mass organizations and getting people around you to join ("organizing" them) makes a much bigger impact. 4/19
DO NOT GUILT TRIP ANYONE FOR NOT SPEAKING UP ON YOUR STAN ACCS. It is more important to be vocal on your personal accounts and to your IRLs. Or if on stan twiter, then to your Filipino mutuals. Not to an international audience. 5/19
DO NOT GUILT TRIP NON-FILOS FOR BEING "SILENT". Please don't go "I tweeted about [foreign issue here], so why aren't you tweeting about [PH issue]?" They don't have to care about what's happening here. Focus on what's going on in your country. 6/19
JOIN MASS ORGANIZATIONS. I cannot stress this enough. Joining an NDMO will keep you aware and will help you realize what you can do as a young person to bring awareness to PH issues + the concrete measures we can take to solve them. 7/19
NDMOs tackle surface issues at their ROOT instead of relying on elections, politicians and "philanthropists". We rely on the power of the masses and not those who feed into the system. 8/19
I couldn't find a thread (please DM/reply if you find one) of (youth) mass orgs, but I've listed *some* in the following tweet. Each NDMO mainly organizes a specific sector/for the sector's issues. You can message their FB page or DM their Twitter acc and they will help you. 9/19
> @gabrielayouthph - women
@anakbayan_ph - democratic rights
@LFSPhilippines - anti-imperialism
@KabataanPL - congress party-list
@AghamYouth_Natl - scientists
@saribuhaynatl - environment
@NNARAYouth - peasants
@katribu_natl - indigenous people
@Bahaghari_PH - LGBTQIA+

> @OnlineED_bot is a Twitter account that tweets schedules of educational discussions you can sign up for and attend about various issues in the Philippines. 11/19
REDTAGGING. I felt this was important to add because it's at the heart of many issues Filipinos are facing today. Simply put, you are "red-tagged" when you are suspected to have communist affiliations, not just because you RTed a thread criticizing the government. 12/19
Duterte is SCARED of suspected members of the C/P/P-N/D/F-N/P/A because they are the largest threat to the tyrannical administration. 13/19
Community pantries were shut down because its volunteers were red-tagged and the military deemed it a communist front. Peace consultants and full-time activists who have the genuine interests of the people are red-tagged, illegally arrested, and killed by state forces. 14/19
You will NOT get redtagged just from your age/name/pronouns in your bio. Still, you should always be careful with overly personal info you share (don't give out your address, your contact #). On data security, from an activist who's been redtagged: https://twitter.com/iAmAFoxStan/status/1384451124011233292?s=19 15/19
I've never seen anyone on my personal twt acc use a 🔶 to avoid redtagging. It doesn't work that way, and it's frustrating to see that idea being spread on filo stan twt. STOP insisting you need to hide your pronouns for safety. This is fearmongering, and it isn't helpful. 16/19
Peace consultants, farmers are red-tagged and murdered at the hands of state forces. Not for RTing a thread or even just by tweeting, but by dedicating their lives to our collective emancipation. 17/19
In summary, please understand that we can't stop at spreading awareness. One, there are more effective ways of spreading awareness on your stan acc. Plus, once we're "aware", we need to TAKE ACTION by organizing + mobilizing in order to actually do something abt the issues. 18/19
I don't use this account anymore, but I can answer questions if you have any through DMs or replies! Or ask @iAmAFoxStan. Or better yet, ask an NDMO and join them! 19/19
