Our family is fully entwined with @TD_Canada - chequing, savings, RESPs, RRSPs, TFSAs, our mortgage, home and auto insurance. We represent a significant amount of business for @TD_Canada. Our daily chequing account dates back to the Canada Trust days (pre TD “merge”).
2/ The terms are advantageous to us, the customer, if we keep a minimum balance, we get charged no fees. 5 -10 years ago @TD_Canada changed the terms, upping the minimum balance from the original $1000, to $2000.
3/ Doubling the minimum balance felt steep but we made it work, we’ve seen how service fees can add up. So we sucked it up and met the $2000 minimum balance in the account - essentially dead money to us.
4/ Today we received a letter from @TD_Canada signed by @mohit_veoli informing us that they are increasing the minimum balance to $5000.

$5000, 2.5X more than the current minimum balance.
5/ more than doubling the minimum balance?! To $5000?! Are you kidding me? A blatant, anti-consumer policy change in the middle of a #pandemic. Nice touch @TD_Canada!
6/ Well, @TD_Canada, your nickel and dime charges made me take my business account elsewhere. Is it time for us shop around with our personal banking business too?
7/ We don’t do business with bullies.
