🚢⚓️Victims of the tragedy of the RMS Titanic: A THREAD ⚓️🚢
As you probably know, some days ago was the anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic, which sank in the early morning hours of 15 April 1912 in the North Atlantic Ocean, four days into her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City.
The largest ocean liner in service at the time, Titanic had an estimated 2,224 people on board when she struck an iceberg at around 23:40 (ship's time) on Sunday, 14 April 1912.
Her sinking two hours and forty minutes later at 02:20 (ship's time; 05:18 GMT) on Monday, 15 April, resulted in the deaths of more than 1,500 people, making it one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history.
I’ve been thinking about doing something about it for a while. But I didn’t want to make a normal thread about it, because I think that it is a story that we everybody knows very well.
But then I started thinking about the victims. How many of them do we know? We know the exact number, but...what about their names? What about their faces? What about the lives of so many unknown people that sank among the unfortunate ship?
So this thread is my way of paying tribute. Sharing the entire list of victims would be too long, but the idea behind this thread is to remind everybody that these 1,500 victims were real people, with faces, names and lives, and not part of a some story that happened 109 years ago
