This was written off the cuff so I will respond off the cuff. I use a more expansive definition of "folk religion" than gaitanalyst does here. When we think of folk religion we probably think about primitive people in jungles or remote islands, but it's just unorganized religion https://twitter.com/gaitanalyst/status/1383280255792652291
People have religious impulses that they will meet one way or another. In this thread I talk about my own personal model for social different needs people have and how they fill them with something practices that take on a "religious" nature https://twitter.com/0x49fa98/status/1081292872140255234?s=20
When people who live deep in the jungle and only know their immediate family form a folk religion, it ends up being pretty based and redpilled, because those people have a connection to the earth and to their family.
When people who are atomized and thrown into the postmodern epistemic meat grinder of electrified culture, they fill those needs in quite a different way. This is one of the consequences of McLuhan's "global village" https://twitter.com/0x49fa98/status/1063561114514903040?s=20
woke or "social justice" has philosophical roots that we can trace to marcuse or foucault or to a hundred other places. It has attributes of many things, but it is its own thing. It's memetic speciation. It's cringe when someone says "new bad thing is just old bad thing"
the speed and scale of our communication is new. One person figures out they can gain local social power by calling things racist and then we all start doing it because monkey see, monkey do. If you're fancy here you maybe namedrop Girard.
If woke is deontological it's because the people who do it are deontological people. The puritan hypothesis is half right. It's not their ideas that morphed, it's that anything americans from old Massachusetts stock do is going to be deontological and authoritarian
And that extends to their folk religion, which is why they (people in boston) will literally file criminal charges against you for speaking out against the black lives matter cult
A lot of behavior is in the blood. Any purely ideological analysis of the world will fail if it does not account for the unique character of the people who are using that ideology.
