Been making my way through Raoul Peck’s incredible documentary series “Exterminate All The Brutes” on HBO Max.

It’s about how Europeans invented whiteness and then unleashed themselves into the world to conquer and kill non-whites in a way that continues into 2021.
Made me think how white supremacy benefits not just from being in control of historical accounts.

But, from our collective amnesia about what actually happened in the world for *hundreds* of years.

If we all could somehow objectively recall century old memories.
Here’s a good example.

Peck outlines how Haitians fought off slavery and Napoleon’s troops.

But, he then connects how that enabled the Louisiana Purchase, which enabled America to move west.

In 2018, an American President had the audacity to refer to Haiti as a shithole.
When Kim Potter murdered Daunte Wright it actually doesn’t really matter what she thought she grabbed.

Or, what Daunte did or who Daunte is.

Peck’s docuseries makes it clear that what’s happening is more ancient than both of them.

And it’s running on auto-pilot now.
Here is a question I’ve been thinking of for literally a year and is at the core of something I’ve been working on for that time.

How do we reconcile trauma avoidance with historical amnesia? https://twitter.com/ShaylaBGoode/status/1383119003086848000
Peck discusses Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

In our current thinking, we all understand it was “really bad”.

But, like.

It was maybe the most bat shit insane and deeply demonic shit a group of humans have ever done and we should still be making America pay for it.
You teach American History to some bored middle schoolers, give them a quiz and call it a day.

Peck’s docuseries makes it clear that straight up demons roamed the Earth for hundreds of years.

Then, get on television and remind people to be peaceful and not loot or destroy.
It kinda takes your breath away to really think how Europeans set sail and truly spread horror around the world, all for some shiny rocks, food seasoning, and imagined instructions from a supernatural being.
If I really like something, Twitter will be the first to know about it.

But, one thing I think THEM got right was how fucking insane all of the settlers were.

That they were small people suffering from mental illness and terrified of their own shadows.
