Ive been seeing this too much recently - an artist signs with his or her 1st manager, but then starts buzzing and getting the attn of big name mgmt

both artists and mgmt need to think about how they approach these situations. i have so many stories of each side fucking the other
of course, mgmt need to get paid, but i see so many ppl downplay the value of that artist leaving on good terms

the artist can tell others "ya i leveled up, but he's a great manager and i recommend him"

or

"that asshole trapped me in the contract and made my life miserable"
For artists, I also see so many just ghosting their former mgmt or hiring lawyers to find ways to not have to pay their old mgmt

you can't just "get out" of a mgmt contract. The manager has to let you out

and why would he or she just let you out if this is your approach?
in my experience, i've found that if the artist approaches the manager and has that honest conversation, most managers will let the artist go or work out a much more favorable situation

but if either side digs in, it often leads to a lot of intense, unnecessary bitterness
