Appreciation thread.

So growing up, I found this comic @elfquest. I& #39;d go to the library every friday to pick up a new one because wow. Growing up as a mixed kid in a pretty white environment, representation matters and THEY HAD THAT.
Leetah was my go to girl.
And even better, since my parents are white and black, they represented that as well! In such a loving and supportive way. I& #39;ll never see a better love than these two.
And they had kids.. Ember was so much like her father and I resonated a lot with her.
I started drawing because I wanted to be able to create such beautiful images as the comics showed. Granted, I was 12-13 at that time, but the foundation of what I do now was made.
Even now, my characters, the OCs that I created, the Roleplay I get into, it vibes deeply with what this comic has given me. My characters love intensely just like the many couples in the comic, and even their personalities can be linked to the ones in Elfquest.
My main, Mickaela? Winnowill all the way. Aesthetically she is a goth-mum with questionable morals and actions, but a strong individual.
My Captain Xel? Kahvi hands down. Mind you, they aren& #39;t the characters to a T, but going down the road of Nostalgia, now 20 years later.. I see the connections.
I just find it amazing, discovering the foundation of who you are now, personally or in this regard artistically. The representation. The intense connections, the interracial coupling
I also think that through this I accepted far easier to love who you love, that things run deeper than the shallow waters. It made it -very- clear that I like both guys and girls, however the interest was in their personality and not gender.
From what I remember, there was nothing I hated in this comic. Aside from this girl.. I stomach still turns and I don& #39;t remember why. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="😅" title="Lächelndes Gesicht mit offenem Mund und Angstschweiß" aria-label="Emoji: Lächelndes Gesicht mit offenem Mund und Angstschweiß">
This comic was first released in 1978.. Way before I was born, but I know that if I get my hands on them even now, I& #39;ll fall in love all over again.
There is so much to this comic, I& #39;d say check it out.
Looking back on all this, I& #39;m very thankful to younger me for picking up this comic way back when. It fed my imagination and creativity. Even if I stop drawing tomorrow, it helped me through a lot in life, and today it put a smile on my face.
