this is garbage @cibc. my wife lost her job at the start of covid (thankfully she has it back), & we called them because we had been paying for "payment protection insurance" for 10 years, but they said she was 4 days short of the qualification period. https://twitter.com/cibc/status/1280155156525522951">https://twitter.com/cibc/stat...
this is thousands of dollars in fees i& #39;m talking about. it was one of the most stressful financial times in our family. the scariest part is none of us were ever told about this type of insurance and that it wasn& #39;t mandatory when we signed up.
it& #39;s very similar to a lot of those horror stories @CBCNews have covered. i called cibc and they told me unfortunately their payment insurance is a third party so there& #39;s nothing they can do. i know it& #39;s a credit card company that& #39;s in the business of profiting off of misfortune
but i just can& #39;t believe that the insurance i paid for was useless when i actually needed it. the least you could do is refund me for the insurance since i started paying @cibc. you aren& #39;t unfortunately "here for me during these unprecedented times."
i normally don& #39;t rant about anything online, but this is such an emotionally exhausted subject, and i remember the look on my wife& #39;s face when your customer service rep told her "actually you don& #39;t qualify"
i felt so much anger and shame from this situation in the first place, and then completely powerless at the hands of this very large corporation which tweets happy stock photos of families. anyway @CBCNews i& #39;m over the initial embarrassment if you wanna feature this. be my guest!
