Was talking to a Malaysian writer a few days ago abt how challenging it is to learn abt all the writing resources I learn by osmosis just by being in the US/immersed in literary culture stuff. So here's a thread of some interesting opportunities open not just to US residents:
The @cwwriters Prize - the granddaddy of all literary honors - a £5,000 prize & £2,500 prizes for region wins open to all commonwealth countries. Stories accepted in more languages than just English; winning story is pubbed in Granta & just SO PRESTIGE https://www.commonwealthwriters.org/our-projects/the-short-story/
The David TK Wong fellowship, an enormous grant of £26K and a year of writing time at the Univ. of East Anglia in Norwich ( @uealdc) for writers writing about East and SE Asia. BLISS! I was shocked not to learn abt this one till this yr. https://bit.ly/3ga7FdQ
The Deborah Rogers Foundation Prize, a £10k prize for a writer of "promise" in the commonwealth. 15-20k word submission. This prize is affiliated w/ the big literary agency @rcwlitagency in the UK so it's an opportunity to get your work in front of agents! https://bit.ly/3wSaTIJ
The Elizabeth George Fdtn grant & the @pen_ev fellowship require you to live in the US but don't have to be a citizen of green card holder. EG is a monetary grant (ask for what you want!) & PEN is a mentorship opportunity.

The @APublicSpace writing fellowships - awarded to 3 people a year. 6 mths of editorial support to pub your piece in the magazine + $1000 + tons of exposure to publishing people incl agents, editors etc. https://apublicspace.org/news/detail/the-2021-a-public-space-fellowships
Read for literary magazines - these are often remote opportunities that are location-agnostic! Editors are often well-connected and genuinely nice people and it's a good way to learn about the US small pub landscape.

OK I'm sure there's more but I'm sleepy so good night!
PS: If you are Malaysian say hi!

If you have more resources to add, please do... especially about securing an agent or selling a book when querying from outside the US - I have no idea how this is done! Pitmad? Sheer determination? Idunno?
