Here’s my Arclight story:
Years ago I was in an acting class w the usual group of weirdos. I usually chatted with one gal, let’s call her Mandy. She was very out to lunch, but she laughed hard at my jokes, so we became friendly.
Mandy wanted to hang outside of class so we decided to catch a movie at Arclight. I couldn’t tell you what it was because I’ve blocked most of the night from memory. We plan to meet out front of the theater.
Something to know about me (which makes me sound mean but oh well!) I do not wear pajamas in public. I also do not tolerate friends being out with me in public in pajamas unless maybe I’m giving you a ride from the hospital to your home. Otherwise put some damn pants on.
So I show up. It’s a Friday night in Los Angeles. We’re two single gals. I’m dressed appropriately, ready for a drink and fun times after the movie. Maybe we’ll pick up some cute guys! Anything can happen! I see Mandy but do not immediately recognize her.
She’s fully in pajamas. No makeup (fine!) Hair not brushed (worrisome) and absolutely rocked with excitement. Unhinged. This was a mistake.
We chat for a minute outside. Everything I say, she repeats back to me in what seems like a scream:

What did you do today?
Submitted a packet for a new show
A PACKET!!! WOW!! HOW???
My boss is an agent at CAA so he -
CAA?!?! MY GOD!!!

People are staring; I assume worried.
I’m already horrified. And angry. I’ve elected to spend a rare night off with a complete lunatic. I can’t wait to get home.

We go in, watch the movie. She’s pretty subdued throughout - maybe the popcorn is soothing her? I’m thankful we’re unable to continue talking.
The movie ends. The night is almost over. Just gotta get home.

We’re way at the top of the theater. She steps into the walkway. I’m right behind. Initially. Suddenly, she spots someone she “knows” way down front and starts booking it down the steps. I hang back, watching.
The person she spotted is none other than Marisa fucking Tomei. Marisa is with someone, clearly trying to have a low key experience. Mandy bounds toward her while calling out, “Marisa! Marisa!”

I’m frozen on the steps. This is the most embarrassed I’ve been since high school.
Mandy finally gets to Marisa, who is now standing before her in stunned silence.

Mandy goes on, “It’s me! Mandy!” Marisa is confused/annoyed/skeptical.

Mandy goes on to explain that she worked at whichever restaurant that Marisa had been to once. ONCE!
Mandy continues, “You were so nice!” Marisa, who’s now my hero for having said this, replies, “That’s weird. I’m not usually nice to people who approach me in public”

Still on the stairs above them, I’m dying. I look for a way to escape. Maybe I can slip under a seat, unnoticed?
Mandy doesn’t pick up on this. She beams, “Not at all! You were very nice!”

I am in disbelief. Still. Today.

Marisa walks away. It feels safe to leave. I continue down the stairs. I meet Mandy at the bottom and we turn down the hall. Marisa is far ahead of us, almost out.
Suddenly, Mandy whips around to me and says, “oh my god I’m so rude” I’m surprised but relieved. Thank god she noticed! But before I can respond she calls out to Marisa again, “Marisa! Wait!” Marisa turns around, more annoyed than before...
Mandy goes on, “I forgot to introduce you to my friend! This is Lisa!” I frantically mouth “no no no” at Marisa as this wild woman, looking like a runaway mental patient speaks for me. I am now having an out of body experience.
