Thread: Talking to an NHL agent. One thing mentioned re: Why the OHL is still holding out hope for a season - if there's no season & the OHL isn't providing developmental opportunities to players, are player contracts still valid? Or could they argue "frustration of contract?"...
If draft-eligible OHL players are without contracts would the CHL-NHL agreement apply to them? Or could they play in the AHL? As someone who isn't a fan of the CHL-NHL agreement, this is an interesting argument.
According to this agent, it's conceivable if those contracts are terminated players could technically become free agents. ps. I'm not a lawyer, but I do enjoy chaos.
Talking to a CHL exec.. the contract issue was something his league def. investigated with their lawyers but became moot when their league started. Notes it could be argued that it was the provincial govt. that forced the closure/stoppage, not the league.
Anyway... something to consider when the OHL keeps making those "We're still working on it!" statements.
