Dear fellow Hugo award voters, I am here with a plea: Watch She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.

A thread.

So some of you have definitely watched She-Ra. I know this because I know some of you and also because She-Ra's 2 part finale is a Hugo award finalist. You are not the target audience of this thread.

Those of you who haven't may have thought to themselves "this is a kid's cartoon, it is not for me." And I get that. No one wants to be a Brony. But here's the thing: While adults are not the main target audience for the show, it is a show for EVERYONE. Except bigots.

She-Ra is one of those shows that are built with layers upon layers. It's built to work for basically any age from 7 and up. Some things will hit differently at different ages, but that feels entirely intentional.

The series finale, Heart (parts 1&2), is the best episode in the show. It is, for me, the new benchmark for nailing the dismount.

Can you watch just that to be prepared to vote? Well, yes. But maybe don't? Five seasons build up to it and it pays everything off perfectly.

So am I saying you should bingewatch an entire series just to vote for the Hugos? Well, yes. But also because you probably need more joy in your life. You probably need to see these wonderful characters form these amazing relationships.

According to BingeClock, a complete watch of She-Ra and The Princesses of Power will take you 47 hours. That's a lot. However, voting for the Hugos will last until November 19th. That's seven months! I think it may be the longest Hugo voting period.

I like all of the shows that have episodes in the list of finalists. This isn't a call against any of them. But we're voting for the best short dramatic presentation of 2020, and no other show has been such a balm in that horrible year.

So please, for yourselves and your joy, and because it so very much deserves it. And because no animated show has ever won the award: Watch She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.

And then vote for whatever you feel deserves your vote.
