A UN environmental identifies the top 2 drivers of zoonotic disease: 1) increasing human demand for animal protein & 2) unsustainable agricultural intensification→this refers to the 70 billion (!) land animals intensively farmed for food ever year.

In short, industrial factory farming will almost undoubtedly cause the next pandemic, in addition to driving climate change, antibiotic resistance, global hunger, slaughterhouse worker endangerment, and unfathomable animal suffering. (3/7)
Alt proteins are a solution to the harms of industrial animal farming. Because plant-based & cultivated meat production do not require live animals, there is no risk of zoonotic disease, so the likelihood of meat production causing a pandemic drops from significant to 0. (4/7)
