Press conference for #KristinSmart case is now over. Here’s a thread of some takeaways:
1/ @SLOSheriff deputies have not recovered Kristin’s body. Sheriff Ian Parkinson says deputies are “getting close” to recovering her remains.
2/ Paul Flores, the prime suspect in this case, was arrested in San Pedro and is now booked at SLO County Jail without bail. Sheriff’s deputies say his father, Ruben Flores, is also arrested with bail set at $250,000.
3/ Here’s a snapshot of what sheriff’s deputies have done since 2011 in the investigation:

4/ Sheriff Parkinson spoke with the Smart family twice today; he says they are feeling relief, but “until we return Kristin to them, this is not over.”
5/ Sheriff Parkinson credits Chris Lambert’s “Your Own Backyard” podcast for bringing the #KristinSmart case to a larger, worldwide scale.
6/ @SLOSheriff said forensic physical evidence was located in at least two homes. Deputies believe that evidence is “linked” to Kristin Smart.
7/ The arraignment of Paul Flores is scheduled for this Thursday, April 15. Ruben Flores, Paul’s father, may bail himself out, but if he is still in custody on Thursday, he will be in court with his son.
8/ @SLOSheriff is now handing the case over to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office.
9/ Sheriff Parkinson addressed the question of why deputies took almost 25 years to make an arrest in this case: “Our duty is to prove beyond a reasonable doubt; it’s not just ‘we believe this person did it, we’re gonna pull him off the street and deprive them of their freedom.’”
