There is really no such thing as 'Hinduism'. There are Hindus, of course, with a wide & varied assortment of beliefs, rituals, & customs. But there is no single sacred book, no prophet, no core beliefs or forms of worship common to all of those who call themselves Hindu.
But RSSanghis NEED Hinduism to be a religion on the model of Islam or Christianity. They need it to be defined by a single creed, expressed in scriptures designated as sacred. It's a tall order. The Ramayana & Mahabharata, for example, are epics, composed of legends & myths.
They contain characters presenting different perspectives. They were never meant to be history, let alone prophetic revelation like the Quran. Then Manusmriti is a law book, laying out the rules & mores of upper castes, mainly Brahmins.
It is casteist & sexist, to be expected given its date, but a problem if you're trying to present it as a sacred text. And you don't want to alienate Dalits because you need them to consider themselves Hindu. And you want to present Hinduism as a religion that respects women.
There are the Vedas, of course, but most Hindus don't really know them. Besides, they say all sorts of conflicting things. Some Vedas give formulas for Brahminical rituals. Others reject ritual as useless and offer instead a path for spiritual ascent.
Then on top of that, Sanghis have to somehow square Hinduism being a clearly defined, distinct religion with their claim that the idea of a 'Hindu' state is actually cultural and includes Sikhs, Jains, & Buddhists (but not Muslims & Christians).
So if Sanghi pronouncements are full of self-contradictions, consider how many balls they have to juggle. And how nonsensical the whole project is.
