THREAD: Extremist members of the #txlege promise a vote on permitless carry THIS Thurs 4/15 in the House. If passed, HB1927 removes licensing requirements 4 carrying a loaded handgun in public. Texans think that's dumb, b/c obvi, but no one seems to care what Texans want... 1/8
HB1927 forces a person in charge of polling places, k-12 schools, courthouses & bars 2 ask a handgun owner to leave (& they must refuse) b4 a criminal penalty applies. Women, vols (polling places), biz owners (bars) & public servants (court houses) get 2 ask armed ppl 2 leave 2/8
So, in other words, the secretary or principal at an elementary school has to ask a man armed w/a handgun to leave (& he must refuse) before that carry is illegal. This is absurd and an attack on women, who largely staff our public schools. 3/8
Law enforcement opposes this bill b/c it's patently dangerous, as we saw today. 4/8 https://twitter.com/DPDChiefGarcia/status/1382020855589396488?s=20
And I really hope @txbiz @tasbnews @TXRestAssoc @TAMU @UTAustin @HarrisVotes & others are paying attention. B/c in concert w/bills targeted to put guns in bars and hotels...the #txlege is really setting us all up for some nightmare scenarios. 5/8
Oh, hey, and did anyone mention the signage implications? @texashospitals & all sorts of others post HUGE 30.06 & 30.07 signs to prohibit licensed carry as it is. This bill gives y'all a whole new sign to find room for in your windows. 6/8
And then there's polling places. So ppl w/no safety training or background check will be able 2 carry a handgun openly to a polling place & only until & if they are asked to leave & they refuse, will that behavior be illegal. @ProgressTX @JulianCastro #SB7 @BetoORourke 7/8
Wanna help? Text "TEXAS" to 644-33 to ask your House Rep to vote 'no' on HB1927. STAT.
