Today I officialy signed the contract to become a permanent faculty member in applied mathematics at Durham University in September. I am very thankful for the enormous support I've had in my career so far. I am really looking forward to calling this place home!
I have been enormously lucky to have spent seven wonderful years in Oxford, and am grateful to so many people here for their kindness and support. I will miss the city of dreaming spires, but much more than this, I will miss the people here.
There are many people I will certainly miss, but in particular I want to express my gratitude to:
@mathmowaters for the opportunity to come here, and her incredible patience in dealing with all of my naïvety as a DPhil student+providing countless opportunities throughout!
Robert Van Gorder for his constant support, compassion, and willingness to drag me into believing that I had some potential for academic research. His friendship and tireless efforts on my behalf are what have made me who I am today.
Eamonn Gaffney and @PhilipMaini for their enormous kindness and willingness to involve me in endless projects and opportunities. I know they don't use/check Twitter, but I am so grateful to have met these incredible humans.
There are so many others at Oxford and elsewhere (WCMB+OCIAM especially) who have contributed to any successes I might claim, but I will refrain from tagging the world here. 😉
I really will miss this place, but I am so looking forward to having a permanet job at the age of 31!
Before ending this self-congratulatory thread, I want to also reach out to anyone who is early-career: you are *not* alone. It's a tough time to be an ECR, so please do reach out if you want to chat at any point. I will do everything I can to repay the kindness shown to me. ❤️
